Bompass & Parr at the British Museum of Food

Edible Exhibits

Food, we have been told, is the key to everyone's heart.  However, the cultural significance of this most basic of human needs is curiously under-explored, which is where the British Museum of Food comes in.  This pop-up installation is appropriately located at Borough Market, the foodie Mecca of London, and is full of unexpected delights ranging from an "interactive" video which shows the passage of food through your digestive system to a chocolate eating experiment which explores the relationship between sound and taste, via an archive of menus and a sprinkling of food-related art.

The project is curated by Sam Bompass and Harry Parr, the high priests of jelly who brought us such adventurous inventions as alcoholic jelly pastilles, steaks cooked with molten lava and coffee which has been to space.  Watch out for the duo's next project: Height of Winter, a multi-sensory experience at the top of the Shard featuring giant crystalline structures, bespoke scents and, of course, edible treats (mulled champagne anyone?); all designed to create the most romantic environment according to scientific research.
