Detached Warehouse Conversion in Islington, London: £3,800,000

November 13, 2015

Mews for Art Lovers

This week on Property Watch we are back again in our favourite hunting ground around the fringes of the City of London, with its rich historic heritage and diverse range of properties.  Nestled in a quiet corner of Islington is this unusual detached warehouse conversion, which combines the spaciousness of a loft with the intimacy of a mews house.

What the agent says:
"This extraordinary detached warehouse conversion is uniquely located on a private gated mews in central Islington.  Designed by 6a Architects, one of the UK’s most acclaimed practices, in collaboration with the current owner, it offers security, seclusion and an interior of rare quality."

What we love:
The stunning 86 feet long open living space retains a sense of intimacy thanks to the clever use of furniture to create different zones.  The cabinets and shelves on rails, archive storage style, is an interesting and very quirky feature.  Above all we love the way the space is adorned generously with paintings, ceramics and other objects which infuse the space with colours and textures.  Afterall, what is the point of having all that space if you don't fill it with things you love?

What can be improved:
The lighting is a bit flat.  What about a few sculptural or natural ceiling pendants to liven up the space?  Also this house appears to have plenty of light but not much of a view, which is a pity.

This detached warehouse conversion is designed by 6a Architects.  Prices and details correct as at 13 November 2015.

Japanese zen style goes far beyond minimalist white spaces. It is about thoughtful spaces which encourage the contemplation of light, colours, textures and shapes - the building blocks of nature and beauty. The Shutter House in Perth is a great example.

Terrazzo Things from Lick My Brick

There was a time when the use of marble was largely restricted to floors, posh kitchen counters and grave statutes. And then, at some point around the mid-noughties, marble was everywhere. Could the same be happening to terrazzo?
