Playful Drinks Trolley and Bench by Douglas & Company
Jan and Liani Douglas are a Cape Town based design duo specialising in contemporary furniture, lighting and interior objects. For 100% Design South Africa in 2015 they launched a few limited edition pieces which are functional and charming, especially as they all have interesting stories behind them. McSorley's Wonderful Saloon, for example, is a drinks trolley named after McSorley's Old Ale House, one of the oldest bars in New York. We love them for the clever use of mixed materials (wood, metal, marble) and sunny colours (candy pink against black steel frame), which adds visual interest as well as functionality. The overall effect is sculptural and witty, and it looks great even without any drinks!

Tourists have long flocked to the city of Guilin in China, famous for its spectacular limestone hills towering over serene lakes and rivers. Those who stay at The Other Place, a local guest house, however, may be surprised by scenery which is rather unexpected but no less spectacular.
The elegant and minimalist furniture by Belgian designer Casimir is not only beautiful: by stripping his designs to their core, the designer often reveals thought-provoking questions and also a hint of subversion.
A cool space often looks best in a calm, orderly interior design scheme. A good example is this sleek villa on the outskirts of Kiev, designed by architect Denis Rakaev, which uses a restrained colour palette and carefully selected design elements.
