Working in modern open plan offices is as much a curse as it is a blessing. Whilst the openness eases communication and inspires collaboration, the noise and lack of privacy can be distracting and stress-inducing. Fringe, developed by Tijs Gilde, who has just graduated from the Bachelor course at the Design Academy Eindhoven, offers an attractive alternative to the rather mundane acoustic boards available on the market today. Made of overlapping strips in different colours, Fringe helps to improve acoustics whilst at the same time provides a good balance between privacy and transparency. The colours and patterns chosen by Tijs are carefully co-ordinated to add interest without being too distracting, not that we mind being distracted by such a refined and playful screen.
