Ultimate Bachelor Pad

Loft is Loft by Martin Architects

Sometimes a man's man needs a man's pad and nothing is quite as manly as a masculine industrial style loft.  This loft apartment in Kiev designed by Martin Architects ticks all the boxes.

The dark wooden floorboards, exposed brickwork and wooden beams provide the industrial style backbone of the open plan space.  The living room is dominated by an inviting contemporary modular sofa in neutral shades with flashes of yellow.  The eyes are drawn to the iron framed windows at the end of the living room, overlooked by a quirky cage seat suspended from the ceiling.  The living room is separated from the dining area by the open plan kitchen and an unexpected vertical garden created with wooden crates, which creates a charming and intimate atmosphere.  A wall made from black framed glass panels divide the living room from the bedroom, which has an entire wall panelled in wood.  The concrete bathroom is filled with surprising details, including a storage unit made from packing crates.

This is a stunning apartment packed with originality and style, perfect for the gentleman about town.

Product Inspiration

The furniture in this loft is a subtle blend of slick and sculptural.  Try something similar with the Element dining table from Desalto and the Overdyed side chair from Diesel Living, with perhaps the Bordbar airplane trolley in the bathroom.

An apartment designed for parties need to have lighting that is interesting and atmospheric.  A combination of the Lampscape suspension light from Frederik Roije, suspended over the dining table perhaps, with the JWDA concrete lamp from Menu and the Mr Ed bookend lamp from Functionals would work well.

Accessories should be chosen carefully to emphasise the sleek style and add a touch of humour.  The industrial style Pipework candleholders from Nick Fraser, the Join Facet placemats from Finell and the Diesel Living machine collection glasses would all look great in this space.

Shutter House by State of Kin

Japanese zen style goes far beyond minimalist white spaces. It is about thoughtful spaces which encourage the contemplation of light, colours, textures and shapes - the building blocks of nature and beauty. The Shutter House in Perth is a great example.

Terrazzo Things from Lick My Brick

There was a time when the use of marble was largely restricted to floors, posh kitchen counters and grave statutes. And then, at some point around the mid-noughties, marble was everywhere. Could the same be happening to terrazzo?
