Villa B by Powerhouse Company and Liaigre
Prestige and wealth often go hand in hand with ostentations displays, but true class is best conveyed with utmost discretion. A case in point is Villa B, designed by the architects at Powerhouse Company and interior designers at Liaigre.
Located in an upmarket Munich neighbourhood, the villa defies conventions with a monolithic, almost windowless marble-clad facade which simultaneously projects power and discretion. The rear of the villa, in contrast, is open and light; the glass walls and wraparound terrace bringing the view of the lush gardens to all the principal rooms.
The four-storey villa is packed with features, from the bowling alley and car gallery in the basement to the gym and swimming pool on the top floor. What makes it truly remarkable is the astonishingly high level of design. The client, afterall, wanted to have no white wall anywhere within the 2,500 square metre villa. The central circular staircase, panelled in marble and cedar wood, is an exercise in subdued grandeur. The coffee kitchen features rounded onyx counters which give them a warm organic feel, as does the free-form marble stool in the palatial walk-in shower of the master suite. The quality of finish and attention to detail is exceptional throughout, but never in a flamboyant way. This is perhaps what real luxury feels like.
