How to do justice to a site which overlooks the Botanic Garden in Singapore, the only tropical garden to be honoured as a UNESCO World Heritage Site? The answer, according to Singapore-based Guz Architects, is to design a house with a stunning water feature which brings the outside in.
The shape of this three-storey residence is defined by huge cantilevered decks, designed to create a sense of lightness as well as vast open verandahs which are accessed by all the living spaces. At the rear of the house is a spectacular L-shaped swimming pool, gently lapping at the decks of the living room, encircling an impressive spiral staircase which in turn embraces a transparent round elevator in the centre. Glass windows on the bottom of the pool bring light to the floor below and no doubt raise the thrill factor for swimmers. At the other end of the lush tropical garden is an ornamental pool which leads to a spectacular waterfall which cascades down to a tranquil pool on the lower level. This is truly a slice of tropical paradise, the perfect way to bring some peace and serenity into the middle of a bustling city.
