This exceptional house in Sonoma, California was designed by WOJR for two artists who use the house as their residence as well as their studios. The most striking feature of the house is the symmetrical sawtooth roofline, which references the slanted roofs of industrial buildings. The front facade of the house is almost entirely covered by floor-to-ceiling window, leaving only the top part of the building unglazed, which has the effect of highlighting the sawtooth roofline. The reverse is true for the rear facade, where a blank wall provides privacy whilst windows at the top of the walls let in natural light and highlights the jagged eaves at night. An elegant meditation on the nature of symmetry indeed.
