IJburg Tennis Club by MVRDV
Game, Set and Lounge
IJburg is a new lakeside neighbourhood to the east of Amsterdam. When architects MVRDV were asked to design a clubhouse for the local tennis club there, they leapt on the chance to create an iconic structure which is truly multi-functional. The clubhouse is in the shape of a long box but with the roof cleverly dipped on one side to create a seating area overlooking the tennis courts and raised on the other to provide panoramic views of the lake from the inside. The clubhouse is designed to be open for all to hang out and relax. With such a stunningly sculptural design it will no doubt succeed in becoming the social hub of the community in IJburg.
