The Kimua Bench is made using a solid oak structure. The straw seat has been hand plaited giving a uniqueness to its quality.
The Kimua Bench is a contemporary take on the traditional thatched chair. The craftsmanship is marked by a clear sentimentality towards an ancestral knowledge of this art.
Designed by Jean Louis Iratzoki, the collection is crafted with natural, untreated hand-plaited Tabouda straw which gives the chair a delicate, refined feel.
Ever since he opened his own workshop in 1998, Jean Louis Iratzoki has been committed to the creation of articles impregnated with an emotional value, where the respect for nature, character and restraint give form to a contemporary but simultaneously authentic product. A philosophy which has garnered diverse European awards.
Alki´s path started in 1981 in a small village in the northern Basque Country, in Itsasu. In a time of economic difficulties a group of five friends founded a small chair factory that was named Alki which means “chair” in Basque, with the aim of creating jobs in a weakly industrialised region. The cooperative status was the most suitable to our values which are an essential part of our day-to-day existence. Combining ancestral tradition and modern technology, Alki now offers conviviality in a more contemporary style. At Alki, oak, the most noble of woods, is more than a raw material. It is a symbol of our deep commitment to guiding the company towards rational and sustainable development. At Alki's core lies an abundance of skill and know- how that blurs the boundaries between the artisanal and the industrial.
Alki, which means "chair" in Basque, is a co-operative based in the French Basque country which has succeeded in blurring the boundaries between artisanal craftsmanship and industrial production for over 30 years. Under the artistic direction of Jean Louis Iratzoki, Alki's designs are contemporary and stunning in their simplicity, reflecting their continuous pursuit of purification. Alk's products are made in sustainable natural materials (especially oak) by highly skilled craftsmen who are deeply committed to quality, sustainable development and the co-operative economic model.
